Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you may have heard that THE movie of the summer for 2022 is Top Gun: Maverick. While I’ll admit that Tom Cruise personally might not be everyone’s cup of tea, he remains the ultimate action film star doing virtually all of his stunts to the Nth degree. There’s dedication, and there is Tom Cruise dedication.
I say this because it’s the first time in a long time that this author has heard of so many people going back to the cinema for repeat viewings. I plan on doing so myself.
Maybe it’s nostalgia. Perhaps it was the incredible aerial filming and the breathtaking speed of the aircraft doing things we’ve never witnessed before while feeling like we were in the cockpit with the actors. Maybe it was Maybelline.
Either way, there is something to be said for a maverick. By definition:
Definition of maverick

IPAs – The Ultimate Patio Brew?
Summer isn’t summer without some lightweight, citrusy brews with bitter undertones like our IPA craft beers on the menu. Our picks this season include these seasonal winners.
Backcountry – Go Get Yourself Some Cheap Sunglasses IPA (6.7% ABV)
We weren’t kidding when we said you needed to get the sunnies out. This is an IPA brewed with a blend of hops, including Sabro, Vic Secret and Galaxy. A heady mix indeed. You’ll thank us the next morning when your sunglasses are handy in case you overindulge with this strong IPA!
Brewhall – Strata Z Double Dry Hopped IPA (6.5% ABV)
This domestic craft beauty made the cut for our Rare Brews 2022 event. We can only describe it as fresh and juicy thanks to the Strata and Zappa hops lending it strawberry and passion fruit-tasting notes. It might be rare, but it should not be missed!
For the Sourpuss In Us All
It should come as no surprise that the second largest category in our domestic craft beer inventory (behind IPA) is the Sour. Wilfully fruity, tangy, and mouth-puckering, the sour craft beer is a thing to behold on a hot, sunny day. The names only add to the joy of cracking one of these little jesters open.
North Point – Tropic Like It’s Hot Sour (6.0% ABV)
When you need a little more swagger in your step, look no further than this Snoop-inspired sour. Notes of peach, pineapple and mango will inspire you to abandon your regular “gin & juice”. Tart, but not too tart. This one is laid back like the D-O-Double G.
Main Street – Hula Hula Shake (5.4% ABV)
A sour for the ages. A Berliner-Weisse type of sour brew that has buckets of fruit even for the unconverted. Orange, passion fruit, and guava with notes of vanilla and a subtle tang.
Backcountry – What Did the Five Fingers Say to the Face? (5.5% ABV)
If the last two recommendations sounded too ‘beginner’ for you, this is the one for purists. Those of you who want your esophagus to sit up and take notice once that brew gets past your tongue. A powerhouse sour with tropical flavours for the hardcore.
Best of the Rest
Strange Fellows – Jongleur Wit Beer (4.5% ABV)
The simple pleasure of a wheat beer lies in its easy-drinking nature, aromatic elegance, and the bright refreshment that it brings to the imbiber. Patio gold.
Yellow Dog – Play Date (5.4% ABV)
A revelatory blueberry and strawberry white sour-fruited seasonal beer that arrived June 8th. Do not miss this one! Refreshing and tart, with an IBU of 20.
Who says quality wines don’t come in a handy (and portable) can? The Strangers have honed their craft, making excellent beers and are a dab hand at equally awesome wine.
See Ya Later Ranch – Nelly Rose (12% ABV)
A deep-hued rosé boasting flavours of strawberry and rhubarb, cherry, and a citrusy finish. This is a party favourite and with good reason. Refreshing from start to finish and through to the next bottle.
The Hatch – Dynasty Bubbles (12.1% ABV)
In the mood for bubbles? Choose something like this rosé Prosecco-style fizz and enjoy its crisp, intense finish. Expect your guests to ask when you changed your last name to Carrington.
